Bhramari Pranayama…Is also know as Humming bee or bee humming breath meditation.
I have known about this meditation for a long time. Over the years I have practiced Kundalini yoga, and this is one of the breath meditations I learned. When I do it I find it very calming and relaxing.
But sometimes I ‘fall off the wagon,’ as they say, with consistency in my meditation and pranayama. I was reminded today when I pulled out when of those things I love to always have on hand.
I look at my ‘We’Moon’ calendar this morning, and realize I have been out of synch with it for just over a week. I advance a few pages to get to the current week, including passing by some pages of poetry and colourful artwork, and then I happen upon this poem. I felt I had to share it. Not only is it beautifully written, but it brings new perspective and dimension to my Humming bee pranayama, my So Hum meditation, and my gratitude practice. I’m now inspired to practice humming happiness. Thank you Susa.
Happiness Practice by Susa Silverware, 2023
Do you have a Happiness Practice?
The world is so thirsty
for your petals of happiness.
In any moment of contentment
(or in the evening
after a full fat day of play),
on your inbreathe, smile abroad.
Then hummm your happiness out,
breath by breath.
Hum your happiness
out to the parched places
where sorrow or violence
have smothered joy with bitterness or fear.
Hum your happiness,
resolutely smiling,
out to corners of crying and despair.
You can do this,
you were born for this,
you who are not in the crossfire
or in the line of refugees along the road.
You forgot you are made of vibrations?
You forgot that energy is real?
Quick! Remember.
Practice happiness every day.
Dedicate your practice
for the merit of all beings.
Hum your happiness out
to the hard, sharp places.
It takes as long as writing a check.
You can do this,
you can make your contribution
To quenching the world’s great thirst.
